"Reno Red" Insect I

Up

This is the "Gutless Reno Red Insect." They came out (presumably out of the holes in the ground) at around 6 pm.

They have a strawberry red body, and black legs. Oddly, they taste like blueberries (just kidding!) They are far larger than ants, but are far more cowardly. When approached, they run away, and seem to place their heads in the ground. This is possibly a defensive measure; perhaps they squirt something out? They run quite rapidly. I saw some with wings, but like ants or termites, these might be the ones which mate and create new colonies.
