This is probably not the image which comes to mind when you think of New
Mexico. Most
people expect the place to be all desert. Few outsiders know the Rocky Mountains
run through
a large portion of the state, let alone the farming and ranching (one of the
larger towns is named
Farmington, after all), as well as the oil, coal, and gas resources.
To be honest, most of what you would see if you came to New Mexico would be
typical desert
brush. However, if you go off the beaten path (not too difficult in New Mexico,
given the number of
dirt roads) and into the valleys or up in the mountains, you could encounter
bears, elk, deer, bobcats,
and big horn sheep.
